Android is the foundation.
FoldGPT runs under its own Android UID. The service manages the runtime; the activity, display and input adapt to the mobile experience.

The code is open.
So are the limitations.
The source alpha lets you explore the integration and contribute. Distributing a public APK still requires work on packaging and reliability.
No root. What about Knox?
No root or bootloader unlock is required. The development phone was observed with a locked bootloader, a green verified boot state and a Knox bit of 0. Samsung Pay works.
Why a source alpha?
Fresh installation and full runtime assembly still need qualification. The proprietary client is obtained separately and the adapter targets a specific version. The current release does not contain a public APK.
Sessions and Android processes
Android shares its phantom process budget across monitored processes. Creating multiple APKs does not multiply this budget. Process cleanup, concurrent active conversations and long background sessions still need qualification.
Is this an OpenAI or Samsung app?
FoldGPT is an independent project by julienpiron.fr. It integrates the client obtained from OpenAI with compatibility adaptations. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or distributed by OpenAI or Samsung.
